  12. BatchPrinter allows one to select a range of files
  13. to be printed on the ImageWriter I or II connected
  14. to the printer port.  It will not print over Apple
  15. Talk or on a LaserWriter, however.  The advantages
  16. or using BatchPrinter are:
  17.  
  18. 1. It prints in IW's fastest draft mode.
  19. 2. It allows you a wide range of fonts available
  20.    on the IW.
  21. 3. It allows you to select a batch of files and
  22.    leave it to print unattended.  (I originally
  23.    wrote it to print out many short source files.)
  24. 4. It doesn't require that an ImageWriter file be
  25.    present.  (A boom if you don't have a hard disk
  26.    and are pressed for space.)
  27. 5. It will print in the background as long as
  28.    nothing else is fighting for the printer.  (It
  29.    is strongly recommended that the disk w/the
  30.    files you're printing remain in one of your
  31.    drives to avoid bothersome swapping.)

  34. Installation:

  36. BatchPrinter is a desk accessory, so use Font/DA
  37. Mover (from Apple) to install it.

  40. Operation is rather straight forward:
  41.  
  42. When you first select it from the Apple menu, it
  43. will allow you to select your files.  Select them
  44. in sequence and click on cancel when you're done.
  45. After you select a file, an options dialog box
  46. will be displayed.  The options include a choice
  47. of fonts, width of tabs, and page length.  The
  48. page length may be a bit confusing.  The first
  49. entry represents the number of lines you wish to
  50. actually print on.  The second represents the number
  51. of lines in the page itself.

  53. For example, a standard sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper is
  54. 66 lines long.  Say you want to print on the upper
  55. half only.  You would input ...Print on [33] lines
  56. of [66] lines/actual page...

  58. The other option allows you to turn on slashing of
  59. zeros.  Some people prefer it to prevent confusion
  60. with the letter O.
  61.  
  62. All choices you make will be carried onto the next
  63. file you select, unless you want to change them, with
  64. the exception of the tab width.  If the file you
  65. select has a tab width saved with it according to
  66. Apple's MDS Edit format, that width will be displayed.
  67. Otherwise, your previous selection will remain
  68. effective.

  71. After selecting the files, you can choose to
  72.    - Add File (select more files)
  73.    - Print (start printing)
  74.    - New Job (de-select all files)
  75.    - Delete File (de-select a file you've selected)
  76.    - Modify (change the options of a file)

  78. With the latter two options, you must chose a file
  79. first.  You can do so by clicking on its name.  If you
  80. double-click on its name, it will be equivalent to
  81. selecting the file and selecting modify.

  83. After you select print, you will be presented with two
  84. other choices.
  85.    - Cancel (stop printing)
  86.    - Pause (pause printing)
  87.         If you select Pause, the pause button will
  88.         become a Resume button.

  92. Other info:

  94. Defaults of Elite, 60/66 lines, slashed zeroes, (and
  95. 4 spaces/tab)* apply the first time you select a file.
  96. From then on, your previous choice becomes your new
  97. default.  New defaults are not saved.
  98.      * If the file you're printing has an ETAB
  99.        resource (as Apple's MDS Edit guidelines
  100.        call for), the tab setting saved there will be
  101.        the default.
  102. The IW limits you to 32 tabs per line.
  103. For non-proportional fonts, once the end of line is
  104. reached, a carriage return and linefeed are sent.
  105. For proportional fonts, such an option will be
  106. implemented in the future.  For the mean time, your
  107. lines will overwrite each other if you attempt to
  108. print beyond the right margin.  Also, an option to
  109. print an information header (file name, time, page)
  110. will be implemented in the next version.  Similarly,
  111. there will also be an option to select between the
  112. IW II's three printing modes.

  131. to register for a previous product.  I wish I could
  132. mail everyone notices now and then, but costs for
  133. such become prohibitive and thus, support will mostly
